Every Mother Counts was founded by Christy Turlington Burns to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere. By 2019, the nonprofit had a nationally recognized mission and a deeply committed team — but its comms didn't match the caliber of the work happening inside.
THE CHALLENGE: There was no unified brand voice across digital channels. Social media was reactive, not strategic. The website and email marketing operated in silos. And online fundraising—despite significant organizational visibility —was underperforming what EMC's reputation warranted.
Kate initially met with the Managing Director of Communications for a one-time consulting session. What was supposed to be an advisory meeting turned into a recruitment pitch. EMC recruited Kate away from her two largest clients to take on the challenge.
